Chinese Community Computer Lab San Francisco

Top city and community advocates will gather to launch the Chinese Community Computer Lab and Training Program. The Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is mandating Meaningful Use,  a set of standards involving the use of electronic health records to improve health outcomes, increased efficiency, and additional research data for healthcare systems. Meaningful Use is to be achieved through 3 stages over 5 years. The purpose and benefits of Meaningful Use include 1) Complete and accurate information, 2) Better access to information, and 3) Patient Empowerment.

Many of our community members are without basic computer and Internet skills. The Chinese Hospital Health System is at the forefront in working towards this national healthcare improvement goal by preparing and equipping our community with basic computer and Internet skills to access their personal health records.  For community members who are literate with using computers and Internet, we will show them how to access their personal health records.  This program aims to minimize the digital divide through linguistically appropriate and hands-on training.

Tzu Chi Foundation office Milpitas

Due to a decrease in government funding and a continual increase in the cost of dental care, the number of people without dental insurance continues to grow. According to published reports, 1 out of 3 Californians do not have dental insurance. Though toothaches aren’t an disease, they bring as much pain and suffering and affect a person as much as one. This is why the Tzu Chi Foundation opened a Free Dental Clinic; to provide low income and no income residents with free dental care education, checkups, teeth cleaning and other needed dental services.

Currently the Tzu Chi Free Dental Clinic is only open every Monday from 9am-5pm and stops accepting patients at 3pm. The clinic is located at the Tzu Chi Foundation office in Milpitas at 175 Dempsey Road, Milpitas, CA 95035, phone number 408-964-4560. In order to ensure that our limited resources are utilized for those most in need, patients must provide photo identification such as driver license, passport and documentation of low-income such as a welfare check, tax return, bank statement or Medicare card.  The students have to provide student ID, bank statement or I-20 for urgent care. The dental clinic currently does not provide pediatric dental care, only care for patients over 18 years of age.

Due to the large scale of community outreach will be held on Sunday, October 27 from 9am to 3pm in same location, the dental clinic will be closed on October 28, November 4 and December 30, 2013 for new year holiday.

Typhoon Haiyan, one of the most powerful typhoons ever recorded, left behind a wide swath of destruction in the Philippines on November 8, with the highly populated city of Tacloban hit hardest. Currently, death toll estimates reach as high as 10,000, and as rescue efforts have been slowed by the enormous scope of the disaster region, casualties may continue to rise. In addition, countless people have been left without homes, in dire need of food and clean drinking water.

Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation has already launched its disaster relief effort and prepared 200,000 individual servings of instant rice meals and 30,000 blankets to be shipped to the disaster region. On November 12, the first shipment of 30,000 blankets and 60,000 instant rice meals departed for the disaster region via C-130 military transport aircraft.

Tzu Chi Foundation USA invites donations of relief funds and kind thoughts from individuals across the United States to send to disaster survivors in the Philippines. Please make checks payable to “Tzu Chi” and write “Disaster Fund” on the memo line. Please mail the donation check to Tzu Chi Foundation Northwest Region at  2355 Oakland Rd. San Jose, CA 95131 or click www.tcnw.org to make a donation online. For donation information, please call 408-457-6964 (San Jose and south bay), 415-682-0566 (San Francisco), 510-879-0971 (Oakland). With your donation, Tzu Chi can help more survivors to recover from the disaster.
