Obon Festival is the Japanese-Buddhist custom that honors the spirits of one’s ancestors. The Mountain View Buddhist Temple will celebrate the Obon with the Festival and Bazaar on Saturday, July 20 from 4:00pm to 10:00pm and Sunday, July 21 from 12:00pm noon to 8:30pm.
Enjoy the TASTE of a variety of delicious Japanese foods such as tempura, sushi including California roll, udon noodles, grilled chicken and beef teriyaki, yaki manju, ohagi, spam musubi, chi chi dango, manju-dough cookies and chicken salad. American food will also be available: Polish sausage, chili and rice, corn dog, corn-on-the-cob, French fries, strawberry shortcake, shaved ice, soda, tea and sake.
The sounds of the MVBT Taiko Group can be heard on Saturday at 4:30 pm and Sunday at 12:30pm. The Jun Daiko will play on Saturday at 6:00pm and Sunday at 3:30pm. Both groups will play near the yagura stage area. On Sunday at approximately 1:45pm, the Obon Jazz Group will entertain the crowds.
On Sunday, the raffle drawing will take placeat 8:00pm and the Obon Festival will close at 8:30pm.
