Egyptian police authorized to use deadly force

CAIRO (AP) Egyptian authorities have authorized police to use deadly force to protect themselves and key state institutions from attacks.

The Interior Ministry says it’s taking the step after supporters of the deposed Islamist president torched two local government buildings in the city of Giza, home of the pyramids.

Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman said death toll in Wednesday’s violence rises to 638.
