SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Prosecutors say they expect to decide within two weeks whether criminal charges are warranted in the death of a 16-year-old Asiana Airlines crash survivor who was fatally run over by a fire truck.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe revealed the timeline to the San Mateo County Times on Tuesday. He told the newspaper he has not yet seen the case and had no initial leanings.
San Francisco police forwarded the results of their investigation into the death of Ye Mengyuan to the District Attorney’s Office on Friday.
Authorities have said a fire truck ran over Ye in the aftermath of the July 6 crash. The girl was buried by firefighting foam rescue workers were spraying to douse the burning plane.
Fire Department officials are still investigating the incident, but have called the teen’s death a “tragic accident.”
