A sudden failure of a Chinese high-speed train stranded about 1,000 passengers for five hours in a tunnel on Wednesday night.
The D3206 train suddenly stopped when going through a tunnel from Taizhou City to Linhai City in east China. As there was no power and water during that period, passengers had to smash the windows with emergency hammers to get fresh air and cool themselves.
“We stopped in a tunnel. There seemed to be a failure with the train. More than 1,000 people were stranded in the train,” said a passenger on the D3206 train.
The train returned to the Taizhou station at 11:03 after a five-hour pause.
The train was sent to Shanghai for inspection, and the preliminary judgment was that a malfunction of the current transformer on the roof of the train had caused the accident.
