Hayward, CA – Hayward Chabot College and China Wuxi City College of Vocational Technology celebrate the signing of a sister college agreement.

Dr. Zhou Weican from Wuxi City College of Vocational Technology says, “Through contacts and communications, our two schools found a common interest so we decided to become sister colleges.”

Chabot College Board of Trustee Hal Gin says, ” The agreement will result in student exchange programs.  We are also looking for online classes that can be conducted in both China and the United States.”

Gin hopes that exchange programs help increase the number of international students at Chabot. He says, “I think this will provide a chance for international students to explore what we have to offer that is similar to programs at Stanford, Berkeley, and other big institutions.”

Dr. Zhou says that Wuxi City College is located in a developing area of south east China. As the sister college of Chabot, Wuxi City College can provide a platform for both teachers and students to learn about different cultures and to improve education levels. Zhou says, “The benefits of becoming sister colleges are significant. The agreement provides opportunities for student exchange, teacher exchange, academic exchange, and the improvement of student learning skills.”

Chabot College currently has about 15,000 students and Wuxi City College of Vocational Technology has about 8,000 students.
