Supporters of CA proposition 29 question the role of a doctor who works as a spokesperson against proposition 29, which would add a $1 tax on cigarettes.
Dr. La Donna Porter says she is against smoking and she thought prop 29 was a great idea. However, she claims that after she read the proposition, she found that no money from the tax would go to new funding for cancer treatment, and political appointees can spend the tax dollars in other states.
On the other hand, supporters of proposition 29 explain the new tobacco tax would fund medical research in California for lung cancer and other types of cancer. In addition, they claim that the proposition would also reduce tobacco use in the state.
