A California man says he’s lucky to be alive after crushing a vertebra in his lower back in a 40-foot fall into a crevasse in Glacier National Park.
Ted Porter of Los Angeles told The Daily Inter Lake that it was raining when he slipped on the ice while climbing Jackson Glacier on Sept. 3.
He said he was in extreme pain, but he knew he needed to get out and go for help or he wasn’t going to make it. Just in case, he made a video on his cellphone telling his parents what happened and that he loved them.
Porter found a way out of the crevasse, but still had to walk about three miles to a campground. The campers tended to him through the night and went for help in the morning.
