Bikers: Off-camera acts led to NYC driver run-in

NEW YORK (AP) The dramatic case of an SUV driver attacked after he struck a motorcyclist during a New York City rally has been built on amateur video footage.

But some bikers say what happened off-camera really touched off the encounter. They claim that the SUV had a brush with a motorcycle before the well-documented run-in began farther up Manhattan’s West Side Highway on Sept. 29.

Video shows a biker decelerating in front of the SUV before the vehicle bumps him. After bikers surround the SUV, the driver plows over the rider and takes off.

The bikers catch up with him and beat him. Seven people have been charged, including an off-duty undercover police detective.
