British football player David Beckham arrived in Beijing on Wednesday morning as the ambassador for the youth football program in China and the Chinese Super League.
When he walked out of the airport, he was warmly welcomed by his fans who had waited for hours.
The famous player attended a press conference at the Shijiahutong Elementary School in the afternoon, communicating with pupils and answering questions from reporters.
He is scheduled to guide students how to play football in the Beijing Number Two Middle School and then visit the Beijing Guoan Football Club, a Chinese professional football club that currently participates in the Chinese Super League.
It is the first time he has come to China after the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Although the schedule is tight, he said he was very thrilled.
“The schedule is pretty busy. But you know, I think being here, however, I have a big fan base from being in Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC milan and of course in the Galaxy. I am excited to be back,” he said.
Beckham also says he hasn’t ruled out playing professionally in China someday.
During his five-day stay in China, Beckham will visit the cities of Qingdao and Wuhan in addition to Beijing, for promotional activities as the CSL ambassador.
