A baby girl who was born by caesarean section after her Palestinian mother was killed in an Israeli airstrike also died on Wednesday.
The baby, named Shaymaa after her mother Shaymaa Hussein al-Sheikh Ali, was born via posthumous caesarean section last Thursday.
Ali, who was 24, was killed by shrapnel from an airstrike that targeted and demolished the roof of her family home, according to Gaza medical officials.
The baby’s father, Ibrahim Sheikh Ali, was also killed.
Shaymaa’s was wrapped in a white cloth and delicately placed in her grave at a local cemetery.
The United Nations has called for an immediate cease-fire in the fighting that by Wednesday had killed more than 1300 Palestinians, 52 Israeli soldiers and three civilians on the Israeli side.
The United Nations says civilians make up more than three-fourths of the dead and a majority of the wounded.
Children account for at least 30 percent of the casualties, according to UNICEF, the UN children’s agency.
