BAY AREA STATION KTSF-TV AND CALIFORNIA MUSIC CHANNEL CELEBRATE 18-YEAR PARTNERSHIP: Pop Music Video Show Now Airing Live on KTSF-TV

San Francisco, June 17, 2002 - This year, the premiere Bay Area multicultural station KTSF-TV celebrates almost two-decades of working with California Music Channel (CMC). One of KTSF's oldest and most-established clients, the California Music Channel program occupies the 3:00pm-5:00pm timeslot on weekdays to broadcast the Bay Area's hottest and most popular music. For the first time as of this month CMC airs live on KTSF, allowing viewers real-time access to the show and increased opportunities for participation and interaction.

KTSF-TV and California Music Channel began their partnership in October of 1984, broadcasting a mix of contemporary hit music chosen specifically for the northern California region. CMC's ability to put their finger squarely on the region's musical pulse, combined with KTSF's solid commitment to multicultural programming, garnered the show a large, highly responsive and very loyal following in the Bay Area. "We've always felt that CMC was a perfect fit for KTSF because the music they feature is what the community wants to hear," said Michael Sherman, General Manager of KTSF-TV. "And delivering programming that reflects the diversity of Bay Area residents has always been our top priority."

"For the most part, the music we play is 'pop,'" says CMC President and CEO Richard Kurkjian, who founded the Califonia Music Channel in 1981. "The word 'pop' connotes anything that is trendy, popular and cutting-edge-the works of artists like Jennifer Lopez, Eminem, No Doubt, Pink and N'Sync. Pop music is a fusion of different styles and cultures, very much like the multicultural tapestry that is the California landscape. Like the population, music is always evolving. Keeping up with this evolution allows CMC to remain current and vital to audiences."

Much of the show's success is owed to Program Director Andy Kanawami and Host Chuy Gomez. Together they infuse the program with personality, energy and pop cultural relevance that keeps their wide audience of 12-49 year olds riveted. Their creative formats are also a big draw: besides showing the top music videos, CMC features guest appearances, live broadcast at community events, audience polls and contests, as well as special remotes from places like Paramount's Great America.

"As the Census 2000 results portend, the American population is only going to become more and more diverse. We're extremely pleased to be partnered with CMC in a relationship that celebrates the future of musical and multicultural broadcasting and look forward to continued success," said Sherman.
