KTSF Honored with American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) Kudo Awards

San Francisco – May 31, 2006 - The Northern California chapter of American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) announced that KTSF is receiving three awards at the AWRT 31st Annual Awards ceremony on June 8, 2006. Each year AWRT honors stations and individuals for their contribution to the Bay Area broadcast community. Founded in 1951, AWRT has worked to improve the quality of broadcast programming and the image of women as depicted in radio, television and cable.

Mandarin News anchor Pei Chun Liao was named the best non-English news anchor in the market. Pei has anchored this 10:00pm newscast for the past six years and has been active in various community organizations. KTSF's nightly Mandarin News was launched in 1991, two years after the start of the KTSF Cantonese News.

KTSF's Mandarin-language talk show, Talk Tonight, received two awards: best non-English program and best non-English program host, Orlando Shih. Talk Tonight is broadcast live each weeknight at 11:00pm. For those in the Bay Area Chinese community interested in both news and current social trends, Talk Tonight provides the opportunity to have a direct connection with the newsmakers of the day.

KTSF General Manager Michael Sherman says, "These awards are confirmation of the high quality production values we work for at KTSF. Everyone at the station deserves credit for their continuing contributions to Mandarin News, Talk Tonight and all the other KTSF produced programs."

KTSF-TV is California's largest multilingual television station serving the rapidly growing Asian American marketplace. Established in 1976, KTSF is an independent, full-power station, providing the Bay Area's 1.4 million Asians with news, information and entertainment in twelve languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Japanese, Korean and Hindi. In 1989, KTSF became the first broadcaster in the nation to carry a live Chinese-language newscast. Today, KTSF is the only broadcaster in the United States to air nightly, live Mandarin and Cantonese-language newscasts. KTSF's signal covers more than 2.75 million households in the San Francisco television market and is locally owned and operated by the Lincoln Broadcasting Company. In the Bay Area, KTSF is available over-the-air on channel 26 and on cable channel 8 on Comcast Cable throughout the market. DirecTV and Dish Network also carry KTSF.
