49ers build bikes for underserved youth

Santa Clara, CA – The San Francisco 49ers and Optum will team up with Turning Wheels for Kids to build 49 bikes for underserved youth from EHC LifeBuilders in Santa Clara County. The two-day event will begin with a bike build on Monday, November 11th, and culminate the next day, Tuesday, November 12th.

Employees and volunteers from Optum will join members of the 49ers, Turning Wheels for Kids and Optum Pro Cycling to help assemble the bikes at 49ers Headquarters in Santa Clara. The bikes will be delivered the following day to youth during an interactive non-contact football camp and health and wellness fair at Lick Mill Park.

The San Francisco 49ers Foundation is the non-profit community funding extension of the San Francisco 49ers. Now in its 21st year, the 49ers Foundation supports development programs for underserved youth that keep them, “Safe, On Track, and In School.” Since 1992, the Foundation has donated over $20 million to support non-profits, including $2.9 million in 2012.
