Four charged with murder of USC student from China

Two young men and two teenagers have been charged with murder in the fatal beating of a University of California graduate student from China.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office says the four will be arraigned Tuesday in Superior Court on one count of murder with a special circumstance of murder in the course of an attempted robbery. Three face a special allegation that they personally used a dangerous weapon ?a baseball bat.

The victim, 24-year-old Xinran Ji, was attacked at 12:45 a.m. on July 24 as he walked home to his off-campus apartment after a study group. He made his way to his apartment, where he was found dead around 7 a.m.

In 2012, two USC students from China were fatally shot during an off-campus robbery.
