On Feb.15, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) conducts a naturalization ceremony at the Paramount Theater. Around 1200 people from an estimated 100 nations receive their citizenship at this event, which also provides the setting for a very special recognition of a well-admired local woman.
USCIS Deputy Director Lori Scialabba swears in the new citizens at this ceremony, and recognized Anni Chung, executive director of San Francisco’s Self Help for the Elderly, as an Outstanding American by Choice.
Ms. Chung is the first recipient of this honor for 2012. Last recipients of this recognition include Madeleine Albright, President Clinton’s Secretary of State. The most recent San Francisco Bay Area honoree was Dr. Samuel So, director, Liver cancer Program at Stanford University, on Jan.21, 2010.
