Statistics from the San Francisco Police Department show that crime in the city has continued a downward trend.

Last year, homicide in S.F. totalled 50, the same as in 2010. Violent crimes were down 6 percent in 2011. Aggravated assault  down 9%. Robbery down 2%. Rape  down 12%. Burglary down 5%.

Property crime was up 3%.

The SFPD says the department is using a ‘task force style’ in response to crimes of violence. Other measures being taken to bring down the crime include increased community policing and an improved approach in assisting those suffering from mental illness and those with limited English proficiency.
