Starting Jan. 1, 2012 don’t forget to bring your own bag for shopping in San Jose due to a new ban on plastic bags.  Most Chinese residents say they are prepared, but feel that the ban is inconvenient. One resident said, “It’s good for the environment, not good for me.” Another resident said she is afraid she will forget to bring her own bag when she goes shopping.

While stores will provide paper bags, customers will have to pay at least 10 cents per bag. One resident said, “Anything out of pocket is not good for me.”

Notably, the San Jose area has the greatest number of retailers in all of California.
