The American Red Cross has set up an evacuation center to assist residents who were affected by the 5-alarm fire. An official with the Red Cross said “We provide food, clothing, housing. If they don’t have their medication, we can supply that, eyeglasses, a variety different things.”
One of the building owners reached the scene immediately when he received a call from the building manger. “My reaction is great building, great bunch of people live in there. Real sorry to see it go. From what I can tell, it looks like the building is totally lost.”
Friends and family members came to help and comfort their loved ones. One man said: “It’s tough for my sister, obviously.  It’s close to Christmas, bad timing.” One man said, he was not able to reach his friend who just lost a dog a week ago. Now it’s double pain for him. He offered him a place to stay. “I will help him. He can stay with me and my wife and I will let him stay with us because he is a good man.”
The evacuation center is at the Missionary Temple church at 1455 Golden Gate Ave. Residents who need housing, food or other assistance are advised to go to the evacuation center or call (888) 4-HELP-BAY.  Those wishing to donate to the fire victims can contact the Red Cross at (888) 4-HELP-BAY or visit www.redcrossbayarea.org <http://www.redcrossbayarea.org> .
