The PayByPhone system, already used in San Francisco’s Castro district, will be extended citywide. The system recognizes the user and identifies the individual parking location. The driver needs to enter the desired parking time in order to complete the transaction. Then the system will send a text message reminder before the time expires. Additional time can be purchased by phone from any location but is also subject to time limit restrictions. A receipt will be automatically sent to the user’s email account.
Scott Wiener, District 8 Supervisor says, “The number of parking tickets and revenue goes down, and meter revenue goes up. That’s exactly how it should be.”
People can sign up at paybyphone.com or calling 866-490-7275. The system will charge the customers a $0.45 fee for each transaction.
