CNY Second Day Meal

Today is the second day of the year of the dragon. And, according to the tradition in Canton, China, family members or employees have to take a meal together with dishes symbolizing good wishes.

he meal is considered “the beginning of the year,” even though it takes place on the second day of the new year. On the first day,  people are supposed to eat vegetarian.

Today, people following tradition will worship god by burning and igniting candles. Afterwards, people start their meal.

A Chinese restaurant in San Mateo follows this tradition.  Owner Ken Pan says such a meal will increase the sense of belonging with the employees.   Pan says, “Employees would think I have been working hard for the whole year and the boss remembers me and buys me a meal.”
