San Francisco Police Make Arrest in Richmond District Robbery Series
On August 24th, at 2:45PM, officers from the Richmond District Station responded to a robbery call at a store on the 5800 block of Geary Boulevard. The suspects, two adult males, dressed in dark clothing, one wearing a ski mask, entered the store armed with handguns. One of the suspects ordered an employee to lie on the floor. Using a hammer, the suspects smashed a glass display case, stealing various pieces of jewelry. Hearing the commotion, a second employee emerged from the back of the store and surprised the suspects who fled on foot. The second employee gave chase, following the suspects to 23rd Avenue where one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. The suspect then turned away, running to a gray Volkswagen. The first suspect entered the car, which then began to drive away. The second suspect followed on foot, both turning onto Clement Street. When the employee reached the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Clement, the suspects and Volkswagen were nowhere to be seen.
Responding officers began a coordinated investigation which led to the discovery of the suspects’ vehicle, parked and unattended on the 100 block of 22nd Avenue. Officers were able to see several items of evidence in car, including a hammer and ski mask. Further investigation led to the identity of one suspect who was located at Geary and Webster Street. Two additional suspects were located at a residence on the 400 block 28th Avenue. A 50 year old, male, San Francisco resident and a 48 year old, male San Francisco resident and 23 year old, male, San Francisco resident were placed under arrest and later booked at Richmond Station on charges of: robbery, burglary and conspiracy.
Officers noted that these subjects matched the description of suspects wanted for several other armed robberies that occurred in the Richmond District on preceding days. On August 18th at 9:24PM, two suspects armed with guns robbed a restaurant on the 4400 block of Cabrillo Street. This incident was followed by a robbery of a store on the 2100 block of Clement at 11:00PM on August 20th and the robbery of another store on the 3900 block of Balboa on August 24th at Midnight. Following an investigation by the Department’s Major Crimes Unit, evidence linking the suspects to these robberies was recovered. Both suspects were charged with these additional crimes. Booking photos and names of the suspects will not be released at this time due to pending identification matters.
