The Cantonese Journal

Mei-Ling Sze, a 15 year veteran of broadcast news, has anchored the KTSF-TV Cantonese News since it's premiere in February, 1989. Sze is an anchor, managing editor and reporter for the newscast. As a reporter she has covered numerous stories locally and overseas. This includes the San Francisco Loma Prieta Earthquake, President Clinton's trip to China, the U.S. visit of the Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, the handover of Hong Kong to China, the crisis in Bosnia and the 2000 presidential election in Taiwan. In addition to her work in news, Sze is also a host for the Chinese Journal, a public affairs program.

In 1998, while covering the summit meeting between President Clinton and President Jiang Zemin, Sze's question on human rights directed at both presidents in a press conference was featured on ABC Nightline and the New York Times. The live broadcast of the press conference around the world prompted Clinton and Jiang to debate human rights before a world audience. For her reporting on this event, Sze won the best reporting award by the Chinese Media Association of Northern California.

A native of Hong Kong, China, Sze immigrated to the U.S. in 1988. She joined KTSF-TV in July, 1988, as a host for the Chinese Journal. A few months after that, she helped in the creation of the first live Chinese News in the United States. Before migrating to the United States, she was ananchor and bilingual reporter for the Hong Kong TVB news. Sze graduated with a bachelor degree in Journalism from the Hong Kong Baptist University.

Mei-Ling Sze has a very high profile in the local Chinese community and makes many personal appearances at various worthwhile events.

The Mandarin Journal

Darcy Ting has played a very active role in educating Asian Americans about their consumer rights. Born and educated in Taiwan, Darcy Ting has been working with Consumer Action, a nationally recognized, non-profit consumer advocacy group for 9 years as a Community Consumer Advocate and media spokesperson in the Asian community. As the editor of "Consumer Savvy", a weekly page of Sing Tao Daily, Ms. Ting uncovers valuable information to help consumers protect their rights. In addition, Ms. Ting is a co-host and producer of a one-hour call-in radio program on Chinese Radio, called "Consumer Rights." A versatile writer, Ms. Ting had a thesis published by the American Council on Consumer Interest. Ms Ting is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and American Council on Consumer Interests. She holds a B.A. degree in Mass Communications and an M.S. degree in Instructional Media. Darcy Ting has been host of the Mandarin Journal since 1997.

The Cantonese Journal

Anni Chung is the Executive Director of Self-Help for the Elderly which provides a comprehensive range of health and social services to over 25,000 seniors a year in the Bay Area. She serves on the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Club of California, and the Community Technology Foundation of California and is the Chairperson of the Electric Education Trust Administrative Committee of the CPUC. Ms. Anni has been a host of the Cantonese Journal since its inception in 1985.

The Vietnamese Journal

Tony Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam and fled by boat with most of his family in 1979. While in an Indonesian refugee camp for 18 months, Mr. Nguyen began community service by providing daily public address information for the refugee community. He immigrated to the United States in 1980 and worked as an announcer for a number of Vietnamese radio stations since 1988.

Since 1981, Tony Nguyen has been involved in social service outreach to the Bay Area Vietnamese community through organizations such as, The Center for Southeast Asian Refugee Resettlement (CSEARR), Asian American Community Against AIDS (AACAA), Baker Place (substance abuse services ), and the Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center. Currently, he is business analyst for the Southeast Asian Community Center helping small Vietnamese businesses succeed. Since 1977, Tony Nguyen has produced and hosted the “Vietnamese Journal” for Channel 26, KTSF.

The Japanese Journal

June-ko Nakagawa was born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan and graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.A. degree in Communication. She is President of San Francisco Radio Mainichi - the only Japanese language radio program in Northern California and is a news reporter for Nippon Television Network in Japan. Ms. Nakagawa as volunteered for a number of organizations and events in the Japanese American community and her contributions have been recognized with many honors. She has been the host of the Japanese Journal since its inception in 1985.

The Korean Journal

Sarah Kim-Lee has been a public affairs specialist in the San Francisco Regional Public Affairs Office in Richmond, California since March 2007. She began her Social Security career in 2003 as a claims authorizer in the Western Program Service Center. While there, she joined and assisted the Pacific Asian Advisory Council, serving as different committee chairs.

Prior to joining Social Security, Sarah served as Outreach and Enrollment Manager at On Lok Senior Services in San Francisco. On Lok Senior Health is a non-profit agency that provides a federally funded all-inclusive care program for the elderly. She also operated an immigration clinic for the Korean elderly at the Westlake Christian Terrace senior housing complex and served as commissioner of the Alameda County Advisory Commission on Aging.

Sarah produces and hosts the Korean Journal, a monthly Korean language public service television program. She is well known in the Bay Area Korean community as an advocate for immigrants’ rights and has extensive knowledge of the Korean immigrant community of Northern California.

The Filipino Journal

Joy Rivera-Dodd began her broadcasting career in the Philippines 10 years ago where her work included being the co-anchor of Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation's IBC News in 1994. Moving to the Bay Area in 1995, she worked as a segment producer and host for the Pinoy Pa Rin program which showcased Filipino events, issues and personalities in the Bay Area.

Joy Rivera - Dodds has produced and anchored KTSF's Filipino News Report since February of 1997. Her work in news included going to Manila to cover the Centennial of Philippine Independence celebrations, as well as the Presidential Inauguration in 1998. Ms. Dodds graduated with Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communications from the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

The Laotian Journal

Chaosarn Chao is Executive Director of the Lao Family Community Development, Inc. in Oakland and San Pablo. He plans and coordinates operations of over 12 programs to meet the needs of the local refugee community. His background includes work as a Counselor at Catholic Charities of the East Bay where again he provided assistance to recent refugees and immigrants. Currently, he is also a State Advisory Council member for the State of California Department of Social Services, President and Founder of the Lao Mien American Association. Mr. Chao has received many awards of recognition at the local, state and federal levels for his outstanding and dedicated service to the community. Born and raised in Laos, Mr. Chao has been host of the Laotian Journal since 1988.
